Melanie Del Vechio brings more than 25 years of experience in education and a deep love for serving students and families. She holds a master’s degree in principalship, endorsements in reading and early childhood education, and has completed the National Institute for School Leadership program.

After proudly serving as Assistant Principal this year, Melanie is excited to step into the role of Principal. During her time as Assistant Principal at AMS Avondale, she has built meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff and feels truly grateful for the trust and connections formed within the school community.

Throughout her career as a teacher, instructional leader, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Melanie has focused on helping both teachers and students reach their full potential. She successfully led a campus from a D rating to a B rating in one year by strengthening instructional systems, using data with purpose, and supporting teachers through intentional professional development.
Outside of school, Melanie is a proud mother of two sons. She was born in California and loves to travel, explore new places, and create lasting memories with her family. Those experiences shape her belief in lifelong learning and the importance of broadening perspectives.

Melanie believes that a strong school is built on relationships, high expectations, and a shared commitment to growth. She is passionate about literacy, academic excellence, and creating a warm, supportive environment where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to succeed. She looks forward to continuing to partner with families and working together to help every student thrive.

Triston Garcia – Assistant Principal

My name is Triston Garcia and I was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. I moved to the valley to attend ASU, where I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry. After graduating I began a career in teaching that continued for 4 years. I've taught 3rd through 8th grades in a variety of subjects including pre-algebra, algebra 1, chemistry, biology, and physics. This will be my 9th year working in education, my 6th year with the AMS network, and my 4th year in administration. In my free time I love gardening, listening to NPR, building new projects, and floating in the pool with my husband of 2 years that I have been with for 11 years. I look forward to making this AMS Avondale's best year yet!
